There’s a big chance that reigning UFC light heavyweight and Heavyweight double champion Daniel Cormier will be retiring after his next bout versus Stipe Miocic.
With DC stepping down and Cain Velasquez stepping back in with his fight in February versus Francis Ngannou, Cain is willing to step in for DC and handle his dirty work with Jon Jones.
“I hope so,” Velasquez told MMA Fighting of a potential fight with Jon Jones, “I’ll try to make that happen if Cormier retires.”, “Jon is light work… Especially when he’s not on Steroids” Speaking to BJPENN.com Jones’s striking coach Mike Winkeljohn revealed that Jones will probably focus on defending his light heavyweight title for the time being before moving up:
“I say somewhere down the line,” Winkeljohn said of this potential move. “Somewhere in the future. Jon, I think will just continue to clean out the light heavyweight division for the moment. I don’t think there is a plan to move up to heavyweight at the moment. It is all about the money and the right fights. That is something Jon, his manager, and the team would discuss. I think he stays at light heavyweight for a while, keeps cleaning house, and puts the fear of God in everybody.”
