Midway through Mayweather’s set at the Brooklyn press conference promoting the upcoming bout between combat sports’ two biggest names, the undefeated boxer shouted “yo, form Voltron,” prompting his bodyguards to instantly swarm around McGregor. McGregor’s team, including striking coach Owen Roddy, quickly rushed to McGregor’s defense, and for a moment it appeared that a brawl would erupt on the stage at the Barclays Center. Cooler heads ultimately prevailed, but afterward McGregor was not pleased by the encounter.
“Juicehead fools,” McGregor said at the post-event press conference. “I don’t know, man. I didn’t even see them until they were on top of me. I was like, ‘what?’ and then everybody was pushing and shoving. But, handbags, we call that back where I come from. It means it’s nothing, it’s just handbags. It’s just a term we use.” “We’re having a good time, but I’ll tell you what, if those f*cking juiceheads [do that again], I’ll slap the hell out of all of them,” McGregor said. “If something like that happens at the next one, something will have to happen.”
McGregors team mate and fellow UFC fighter gave his take on the proceedings well: The encounter in Brooklyn reminded pundits an episode of of Showtime Sport’s ALL ACCESS where one the same bodyguards who crowded Conor McGregor, Ray Sadeghi Vinci AKA “Jizzy Mac” pestered Floyd into letting him spar against a “green” boxer in front of the Showtime cameras. Looking at Jizzy’s Instagram account, you can clearly see that the guy fancies himself with a pair gloves on (even if he would break any drug test like a hammer hitting a carnival bell in a bugs bunny cartoon).
“Jizzy Mac”, walked up to the ring like he owned the place. If you’ve got to give the guy anything, it’s that he knows how to be one cocky bastard. He boasted of his previous victories and smiled like he didn’t have a care in the world, assuming he was about to demolish some new fighter as testament to his prowess. Well, the bell is rung and the sparring match begins. His opponent takes a couple of hits but proves he’s smart on his feet and keeps moving… and then he fights back.
