Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has turned back the clock with an imposing victory over long-time rival and fellow veteran Wanderlei Silva. Silva returned to fighting last year after a 4-year hiatus during which he had a lifetime ban from the Nevada State Athletic Commission overturned for refusing to take a drug test. The 42-year-old Brazilian had his work cut out for himself taking on the former UFC Light Heavyweight champion.
The fight was all wrapped up in the final minute of the second round. And it was vintage Rampage that showed up to this fight. The first round saw Silva establish a dart-in dart-out approach to make it difficult for Jackson to find his reach. However, the bait was not taken by the experienced American who is becoming a vastly better boxer as he gets older. His 30-pound weight advantage helped him push Silva up against the cage before the first round ended. Jackson didn’t appear gassed at all during the round intermission, whereas Silva was breathing heavily.
The second round saw more cat and mouse between the two, but this time Jackson was able to dictate the timing more authoritatively. A series of jabs followed by an epic overhand right caught Silva flush, knocking him to the ground. From a standing position, he was then able to pick him off. Trading body blows for headshots depending on the defence, eventually, enough was enough. Jackson praised the heavens as the fight was waved off. The 40-year-old notching up his first win in 2 years.
The hotly-anticipated fourth fight between the two evened the score at two wins apiece. The First two bouts went the way of Silva, but the pair had not met in nearly a decade. The fight was also quite a lucrative one for Rampage, with a $300,000 guaranteed take-home proving to be a nice juicy incentive. Check out the startling finish to the bout here:
